We’ve had another busy year advocating for tenants’ rights and shaping housing policy. Here’s what we’ve been working on to make your voices heard:

Direct Access to Leadership A significant achievement was our direct meeting with Ben Laryea Chair of BME London Landlords and Chief Executive of Ekaya HA to discuss repairs policy and procedures. This resulted in clearer communication about repair timescales and improved reporting processes for tenants.

Regular Forum Meetings Our Quarterly meetings have tackled important issues affecting your daily lives. We’ve scrutinized repairs policies to ensure they meet your needs, discussed the pros and cons of smart meters, and examined how merger processes impact tenants. These discussions have led to real improvements in how services are delivered.

Working with the National Housing Federation We’ve actively participated in NHF initiatives aimed at putting tenants at the heart of housing operations. Your experiences and insights have helped shape national housing policies and practices. This partnership ensures BME tenants’ perspectives are considered at the highest levels.

Better Social Housing Review Our forum provided detailed feedback on the Better Social Housing Review, highlighting specific challenges faced by BME communities. We emphasized the need for culturally sensitive services and improved communication channels.

Regulatory Changes We submitted a comprehensive consultation response to the Regulator about new consumer standards, drawing from your real-life experiences and concerns. Your input is helping shape the future of social housing regulation.

Housing Ombudsman Changes We’ve thoroughly reviewed the new Complaint Handling Code, effective from April 2024. We’re working to ensure all members understand their rights under the new system and can access effective complaint resolution.
