Building Racial Inclusion

After the impact on UK society from the COVID pandemic and George Floyd protests many housing association boards and senior executives have had to reflect, question and start to engage on where they are in relation to racism, with many organisations already taking progressive action.

We call on all registered social landlords to sign up to the Social Housing Anti-Racism Pledge (SHARP) to make the pledge to adopt a clear Anti-Racism policy framework with an action plan to commit their organisation to tackle Racism and Racial Inequality. We expect organisations that sign up to the pledge to develop a specific Anti Racist policy framework with a commitment to action to be monitored and reviewed annually over a 3 year period.

The SHARP initiative will support organisations in their development of shaping organisation cultures that hold themselves accountable towards race equality with real integrity.

By making clear statements of intent on anti racism as a core organisation value and key imperative with resourced and supported action plans, the Social Housing sector will demonstrate leadership on how to practically be the change on making UK society zero tolerant towards racism, and set the standard by which the housing association movement operates.
